Seattle's moss-covered lawns, shaded by Douglas firs and western red cedars, turn to mud every winter and thin out under the canopy by summer. Artificial grass solves that problem for good, and Seattle Turf Installation has been doing it right since 2013.
Whether your Craftsman bungalow in Ballard has a tiny fenced backyard, your rambler in Lake City sits on a sloped lot held by timber retaining walls, or your new townhome in 98121 has a rooftop deck and a postage-stamp courtyard, we install turf that handles Seattle's wet winters, stays green year-round, and works for dogs, kids, putting greens and patios. We've got the experience and the written specs to back it up.
Artificial Grass Installation in Seattle (98121)
Seattle's yard problems are real and specific. Your lawn sits on glacial till and clay that holds water. The fir canopy blocks sun for half the year. Winter rain keeps everything damp, and moss wins. If you have a dog, the mud gets worse. If you have an HOA, your front yard is governed by architectural rules that specify turf color, pile height, edge detail and how much of the lot you can cover. And if your yard slopes toward the house or the neighbor's property, drainage matters before we ever lay turf.
We've installed artificial grass in Queen Anne craftsmans with tiny side yards, West Seattle ramblers on daylight basements, Capitol Hill split-levels, Wallingford cottages, and modern infill townhomes across the Seattle area and Eastside suburbs. We know the soil, the shade, the access challenges (tight gates, narrow passages for turf rolls and base material), and the HOA submittals. We write down what we're installing, name the turf product, face weight, pile height, infill type and pounds per square foot, and base depth. That's how you know what you're getting.

How a Job Works in Seattle
We start with a free on-site assessment. We look at the yard, the shade, the slope, the drainage, and what's there now (dead lawn, old turf, bare soil, or a dog area that's turned to mud). If your front yard needs HOA approval, we help you understand what the rules are and what your submittal should include, but we never promise approval. We answer your questions honestly and give you a written estimate with the turf spec, the area, the infill, the base depth and the total price.
On installation day, we remove what needs to come out (old turf, dead sod, debris) and haul it away. We grade and compact the base to proper depth and slope so water drains away from the house and toward the street or the property line. We lay the turf in rolls, seam it tight, and secure the edges. If your yard has tight access, we plan the delivery and staging carefully so we're not blocking the neighbors or tearing up the driveway. If there's an old irrigation line or pet-fence wire in the way, we locate it first (Washington 811 marks public utilities; private lines are your responsibility, and we help you find them).
When we're done, we clean up all the debris, do a final walkthrough with you, and leave the yard ready to use. We don't leave scraps, compactor marks or tracked mud behind.
Artificial grass installation in Seattle starts at $8 per square foot for a residential backyard, $10 per square foot for pet turf, and $15 per square foot for a putting green. A 400 square foot yard (a typical small Seattle backyard) runs $3,200 to $4,000 installed, depending on the turf grade and infill. A 1,000 square foot yard runs $8,000 to $10,000. The price depends on the area, the turf product and face weight you choose, the infill (recycled rubber, cork, sand or a blend), base depth and compaction, whether we're removing old turf or lawn first, and how easy access is. If your yard has a drainage problem, fixing that before the base adds cost but is not optional. Call us at (425) 699-9907 for a free estimate. We'll measure the area, look at the site conditions, and give you a real number in writing.
